Krauss, Cain Treated to Final Home Win at Millsaps
Official Stats

JACKSON –
Playing in their final match at The Hangar Dome, seniors Dixie Krauss and Amanda Cain led the Millsaps volleyball team to a convincing 3-0 victory over visiting Rust College Wednesday night to get back to the .500 mark.

In a match that lasted just 42 minutes, Krauss opened the first set serving a 7-0 run for the Majors with kills coming from five different players during the streak, including sophomores Kasey Laird, Maggie Tumminello and Heather Keenan along with junior Kate Hall and freshman Raven Scott.

Junior setters Mallory Clark and Hailey Miranda set the tone early for Millsaps by distributing the ball to all hitters, keeping the Rust defense off-balance.

Tumminello put on a fine serving display to increas the Millsaps lead to 16-3 forcing a Rust timeout. Out of the timeout, Tumminello continued to serve well as she gave the Majors a 20-3 lead before a Lady Bearcats sideout.

Behind emphatic kills from Hall late in the set, the Majors rolled through the opening set 25-8 for the early 1-0 lead.

In the second set, Clark started serving for Millsaps with two aces as the Majors jumped out to a 4-0 advantage with help from a kill by junior Camilla Rincon.

Continuing her already strong serving performance, Krauss again took the ball and served Millsaps to a 17-1 lead, adding three more aces. Excellent blocking from Tumminello, Scott and freshman Sarah Zito aided Krauss in the rally.

Three aces from Tumminello and a key block from Laird and Keenan fueled the Majors as they quickly closed out the second set 25-4 for a 2-0 set advantage.

Looking to close out the match, Millsaps turned to its bench as freshman Claire Aime and Kaitlyn Crippin got into the match and did not disappoint coming up with key kills.

The Lady Bearcats would not go down quietly as they continued to fight their way back into the match, but Millsaps proved too strong as Krauss served out the final nine points for the 3-0 Millsaps victory, a fitting end to a solid career inside The Hangar Dome.

Millsaps, now 15-15 overall, will close out the regular season Friday night at Belhaven College at 7 p.m. The Majors won the first meeting between the two teams 3-1.
