JACKSON - On Senior Night at Harper Davis Field, the visiting Austin College Kangaroos extended a 1-0 halftime lead
with three second half goals, including two in the final 8 minutes, to come away with a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road win, 4-0.
Despite sophomore
Dylan Broussard's third 10-plus save performance of the season, Millsaps couldn't muster the offense to get on the scoreboard in being shutout for a fourth straight game in league play.
Austin College (7-9-1, 4-6 SCAC) scored in the 22nd minute to open a scoreless contest, using a well-executed cross into the box from Alex Dawson that found the head of a streaking Chris Melton for the go-ahead goal.
Millsaps (7-9-1, 2-7 SCAC) had its best shot to tie the game just 3:42 into the second half when a streaking
Brian Meyers fired a bullet off the crossbar back into the field of play. Dodging a bullet, AC would use that momentum to take a 2-0 lead in the 59th minute when Dawson beat Broussard to the lower left corner from just inside 20 yards.
Down 2-0, the Majors had a shot to climb back into the match just 43 seconds later when senior
Colin Thompson was awarded a penalty kick. Thompson, however, missed wide right with the keeper guessing left and unfortunately kept up a streak of missed PK opportunities this season (4 for 9 as a team).
The 'Roos would go on to score two more goals in the 82nd and 89th minutes from Guillermo Allande and Luis Castillo to close out the win.
Millsaps will wrap up its 2009 season tomorrow night against Colorado College (9-9-1) with kickoff at Harper Davis Field set for 7 p.m.
