JACKSON - After three consecutive one goal losses and four straight overall,
Leslie Robichaux and her four senior teammates went out in style on Sunday afternoon, winning a 5-0 decision over the University of Dallas
to finish the year at 8-8-3 overall.
With the win, Millsaps earned its first back-to-back 8-win seasons in the program's 23-year history, following up a school-record 13-7 finish a year ago.
Millsaps scored the opening goal of the match in the 14th minute, capitalizing on its third of eight corner kicks on the day. Robichaux played a great cross into the box from the left side where freshman
Margaret Eggers found a head on it past Jennifer Boryca for the goal. The goal for Eggers marked her third of the year, all by way of headers.
Junior
Callaghan Starrett stretched the Majors' lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute for her first collegiate goal, taking a ball off the foot of Robichaux and sailing it over the keeper's head from the sideline. Senior
Meredith Harris would give Millsaps a 3-0 lead in the 35th minute, heading in another Robichaux corner.
The Majors dominated the stat sheet for the day, out-shooting the Lady Crusaders 19-6 overall and 11-0 in the first half where three found the back of the net.
After assisting on all three first half goals, Robichaux finally found the back of the net for her first goal of the match in the 59th minute for a 4-0 Millsaps lead. The senior beat a defender one-on-one and then fired a shot in the lower right corner for the score.
Harris would cap the scoring in the 87th minute off a free kick, sailing a shot into the box from 58-yards out that bounced over Boryca's head after she misplayed it. The unexpected goal gave Harris her 8th of her career and fourth in the game by a Major defender.
Molly Beth Jourdan played the final 45 minutes in net for Millsaps and recorded a career-high five saves to preserve the Majors' 7th shutout of the season.
Millsaps closed the 2009 non-conference slate an impressive 7-1-1 overall.
