DEMOREST, Ga. – The Millsaps College men's soccer team split a pair of games on the road this past weekend, falling to Truett-McConnell 2-1 in the first ever meeting and bouncing back to defeat Piedmont College 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Millsaps faced a 1-0 halftime deficit to Truett-McConnel on Saturday after a Lamin Sawaneh goal in the 17th minute, but rallied to tie it midway in the second off
Aaron Hyatt's third goal of the year (
Daniel Moise).
The Bears, however, would retake the lead in the 80th minute on Shane McKay's penalty kick, 2-1, before the Majors had a chance to tie it late and send it into overtime. TMC goalkeeper Rolando Ambriz was whistled for a red card in the 85th minute, setting up a Millsaps penalty kick for the tie, but incoming keeper Alex Miller stuffed the attempt that preserved the victory.
Against host Piedmont, Millsaps jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 19 minutes behind a pair of goals from Moise, but the Lions rallied back with two of their own to knot it at 2-2 heading into intermission.
The Majors kept constant pressure on the offensive end the entire second half, and finally found the game-winner in the 78th minute from senior
Andres Colocho for the thrilling, 3-2 win and weekend split.
Millsaps (4-2) will look to build on its hot start on Saturday, traveling to Huntingdon College (0-3) for a 3 p.m. kickoff in Montgomery, Ala.
