Final Results
DELHI, La. – Paced by two top 20 performers in
Gabe Aguilar and
Jerry Johnston, the Millsaps College men’s golf team carded a final round 329 to finish seventh at the MC/LC Invitational at Black Bear Golf Course.
After a disappointing opening round of 354 on Monday, the Majors charged back on Tuesday by firing the fourth lowest score of the day to finish with a two-day score of 683.
Aguilar opened the tournament with a career-best 78 but followed with an 85 on Tuesday as he dropped into a tie for 14th place with a final score of 163.
Johnston rebounded from an 87 on the first day to card a 78 on the second day to tie for 19th place with a two-day score of 165.
Adam Haywood improved 12 strokes on day two by firing a career-low round of 79 to finish with a 170.
Rounding out the scoring for the Majors was
Jake Sherrington (98-89-187) and
James McAuley (102-87-189).
Millsaps finished just six shots behind the sixth place team of Louisiana College (677) and 13 shots behind fifth place Texas Lutheran University (670).
UT Tyler (613) claimed the top spot in the tournament with a 19-stroke advantage over the next closest team of McMurry University (632).
Mississippi College finished third with a score of 640 and the University of Dallas carded a 648 for fourth place.
The Majors finished ahead of SCAC foe Hendrix College who finished the event with a score of 742.
Millsaps will take a month off from competition and be back in action at the Emory University Spring Invitational April 11-13, at Stone Mountain Golf Club.
