Blasts from Leonard and Rountree Lead Majors
Box Score

JACKSON –
A grand slam home run from Drew Leonard and a three-run blast from Trey Rountree paced the Millsaps College baseball team to a 12-2 conference victory over a streaking Trinity University team Saturday afternoon at Twenty Field.

The Majors scored 12 runs off nine hits and got an impressive outing from starting pitcher Aaron Williams who pitched six innings allowing two runs –one earned—on just four hits.

Williams stays perfect at 4-0 on the season while Millsaps remains perfect in the conference at 7-0 and moves to 12-4 overall.

Noah Solomon lost for the first time this season and drops to 3-1 while the Tigers, who entered the game winning its last six contests, fall to 14-5 overall and 6-3 in the SCAC.

Jeremy Aliff got the scoring started for the Majors in the first when he was hit by the opening pitch before crossing the plate on a single by Will Hawkins for a 1-0 advantage.

Millsaps would add four runs in the second when Rountree belted a three-run home run for his second of the season and Aliff drove home Leonard with an RBI single to go ahead 5-0.

In the third, the Majors broke the game wide open with a bases-loaded walk to Rountree before Leonard cleared the bases with a grand slam for his first home run of the season and a 10-0 Millsaps lead.

Trinity could not overcome the early deficit as the Majors closed the game 12-2 in the seventh inning when Aliff scored on a fielder’s choice by Tyler Berry.

Leonard, Hawkins and Jules Roussel all finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate while Leonard and Rountree each recorded a career-high four RBIs.

The Majors and Tigers will be back in action Sunday afternoon at Twenty Field beginning at 1 p.m.
