Lynx Score Early to Defeat Majors, 7-1
Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –
The Millsaps College baseball team traveled to Rhodes College on Tuesday afternoon in a cross-division game but the host Lynx got to the Majors starting pitching early and held on for a 7-1 victory at Stauffer Field.

Millsaps’ starter Elliot Varney lasted just 2 1/3 innings while allowing six runs on six hits as Rhodes scored four runs in the second inning behind back-to-back home runs by Chris Conkell and Matt Gilbert.

Behind 4-0, the Majors got on the scoreboard in the third with singles by Will Hawkins and Tyler Berry before Jake Mills singled home Hawkins to cut the deficit to 4-1.

After Gilbert drove in his second run of the game, head coach Jim Page handed the ball to his bullpen that proceeded to pitch the final 5 2/3 innings allowing only one run on two hits.

The damage would already be done, as Millsaps could not take advantage of runners on base stranding 11 total runners in the contest.

Rhodes would add another run in the sixth inning taking advantage of two Majors’ errors for a 7-1 lead.

Varney took the loss for Millsaps and falls to 0-2 on the season while Jackson Baker earned the victory scattering one run and eight hits over six innings.

Hunter Chandler recorded the save pitching the final three innings as the Lynx claimed the win 7-1.

Josh Ordeneaux continued to swing a hot bat for the Majors going 3-for-5 from the plate and Wes Perkins finished 2-for-4 on the afternoon to lead Millsaps offensively.

Millsaps falls to 11-4 with the loss while Rhodes improves to 11-3 on the season.

The Majors will return home to Twenty Field for a weekend series with Trinity University beginning Saturday, March 13, at 1 p.m.
