MAJORS CANNOT TAME LIONS

JACKSON-The Piedmont Lions knocked off the Millsaps Majors 10-7 at Harper Davis Field on Saturday, in the opening game of the 2013 season.

The Majors struck first lighting the lamp to make it 1-0. Simon Sherman lit the lamp to start what would be a special day for the attacker. The Lions responded with four straight of their own, including one with a man advantage. Ryan McKay beat the buzzer and the Lion goaltender scoring with just six seconds left in the opening quarter to make it 4-2. The teams went scoreless in the second and the teams went to the half with Piedmont leading by the same 4-2 score.

The Majors struck quickly to start the second half. Sherman scored again, off a feed from McKay to make it 4-3. Hunter Stevison scored minutes later to tie the game at 4. Piedmont responded with two straight of their own to take a 6-4 lead. Sherman netted the hat trick to make the game 6-5. After a Lion goal, McKay scored in the final seconds of the third to make it 7-6.

The teams traded goals in the beginning of the third to make it 8-7. The Lions then added some insurance in the final few minutes to put the game on ice.

The Majors will take to the road for their next contest. They travel to Louisiana to take on the Centenary Gentlemen. Face off is set for next Saturday at 1pm.
