MAJORS STUMBLE AGAINST SOUTHWESTERN
GEORGETOWN, TX-A big eight goal second quarter for the Southwestern Pirates proved to be the difference in a 15-8 Millsaps loss on Friday night in Georgetown.
The Majors struck first on Friday with McKay taking and scoring a Hunter Stevison feed. Southwestern would take advantage of a Jake Kaple penalty to tie the game only to see Baus give the Majors back the lead with an unassisted tally. The Pirates scored twice in 80 seconds to take the lead and a late Simon Sherman man-up goal tied the game at 3 after one quarter.
Adam Shubert and Kobie Baus scored 90 seconds apart in the early going of the second quarter only to see Southwestern respond in a big way. The Pirates reeled off seven goals in nine minutes against the Majors including one with the man advantage and one while short handed. The Majors found themselves down 11-6 at the half.
The half unfortunately, didn't stop the Pirates momentum as they scored twice in the first half of the third quarter to extend the lead to 13-6. The Majors got goals from Jack Houtz and Scott Budd with the man advantage. Millsaps capitalized on four Pirate penalties in a 60 second span. However, Southwestern would control the play the rest of the way, scoring two goals in the fourth to round out the scoring.
Southwestern outshot the Majors 40-24 including 22-13 in shots on goal. The big stat was a 44-18 advantage for Southwestern on groundballs. Riley McLean got the loss falling to 1-1 as he and Chris Hood each played a half on Friday.
The Majors will look to rebound on Sunday when they head to Shreveport to take on the Centenary Gentlemen at 4pm.
