Majors Blast Hawks to Pick Up First Win

JACKSON - The Millsaps Majors Men's Soccer Team were back in action on Sunday afternoon as they took on the Huntingdon Hawks at Harper Davis Field. The Majors got three goals in the first half and cruised to a 4-0 win for their first of the season.

Millsaps (1-2-1) wasted no time as sophomore Chucky Hayden blazed down the sideline and sent a beautiful ball inside, which found the foot of senior Hunter Creech to give the Majors a 1-0 lead in the first minute.

It didn't take long for Millsaps to make it 2-0 as freshman Lukas Elmhammar controlled the ball in the middle of the field and started the attack. He then sent a beautiful pass to his left to fellow freshman Matt Crooker who put it away for his first goal of the season in the 13th minute.

Sophomore Chase Ming extended the Majors lead in 29th minute thanks to an assist by senior Taylor Harrison. Millsaps went into the break with 3-0 lead as they outshot the Hawks (1-2-0) 11-5 and had eight corner kicks.

The Majors controlled possession throughout the second half while being able to clear their bench. Millsaps got plenty of opportunities, sending off 14 shots and got another goal in the 85th minute from senior Duncan Stankevich off the assist from freshman Tyler Cook

Crooker led the way with five shots on the afternoon and three on target while Ming added four and Elmhammar and junior Hayden Baker had three each. Four different Majors scored goals while four different Majors added assists.

Senior Stephen Andrieu picked up his first clean sheet of the season, picking up five saves in the process. The Majors also got a great perfomance from their defense including senior Alex Szabo, senior Taylor Harrison, junior James Klugh, and sophomore Christopher Lawrence.

The Majors also got great support from their bench in freshman Daniel Staursky, junior Michael Pellissier, sophomore Chaz Ainsworth, and senior Drew Moroux.
