Majors Drop Second Straight Overtime Heartbreaker to Gents
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Millsaps Majors Men's Soccer Team returned to action on Sunday afternoon as they took on the Centenary Gents. The Majors dropped their second straight overtime match in a heartbreaking fashion as they fell 2-1 in double overtime.
Millsaps (1-4-1) gave up an early goal to Centenary (2-3) in the 24th minute to fall behind 1-0 going into halftime despite five corner kicks in the first half.
The Majors battled hard to get back into the game and finally came through in the 89th minute when they got a goal from sophomore Chucky Hayden with 45 seconds remaining in the game to tie it all up at one.
Millsaps attacked agressively in the first overtime, sending off five shots towards goal, but could not find the gamewinner. The Gents ended in the second overtime as they found the back of the net in the 103rd minute to drop Millsaps to their second straight overtime loss of the season.
Hayden had the lone goal to go along with two shots while senior Taylor Harrison and freshman Lukas Elmhammar each got off two shots. Senior Stephen Andrieu picked up six saves on the afternoon despite the loss while the Majors got great play from sophomore Christopher Lawrence.
Millsaps is back on action on Saturday as they hit the road for the second consecutive week to take on the Emory Eagles in Atlanta. First kick is set for 11 a.m.
