MAJORS CLINCH SAA WITH WIN OVER BSC

JACKSON- The Millsaps Majors men's soccer team clinched the Southern Athletic Association regular season crown with a 4-0 win over Birmingham Southern.

The Majors improved to 5-1-1 in conference, besting Oglethorpe and Berry who finished 4-1-2 on the year.

Anthony Hayden and Nico Roth each had two goals and two assists in the game, each of them assisting on each other's goals.

Hayden got things started, getting a pass from Roth and beating the Panther goal keeper to the net and put in what amounted to the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute. The game would be 1-0 going into the half.

Roth stole the ball away from a defender and had a give-and-go with Hayden for the second goal of the game, a beautiful shot and finish in the 52nd minute. Roth would strike again just eight minutes later, getting a through ball from Hayden and beating the keeper from the left hand side.

Hayden then unleashed a rocket off a Roth feed in the 68th minute and went top-shelf to round out the scoring.

Johnathan Huebbe and Charlie Edwards split time in net and earned the clean sheet. Huebbe made three saves including a deflection on a shot that would have tied the game at one. Edwards made two, including a sprawling save to preserve the shutout. The Majors' back line held BSC to just seven total shots, compared to 18 for the Majors.

Millsaps earned the number one seed in next weekend's SAA tournament hosted by Hendrix. The Majors have drawn the host school Warriors and will face them next Friday night.
