MAJORS FLY BY HAWKS
JACKSON- The Millsaps Majors outscored Huntingdon 10-2 in the second half as the Majors downed Huntingdon 19-9 at Harper Davis Field on Sunday.
The first half was a game of runs between the two teams. Millsaps would grab a 5-2 lead around the nine-minute mark. The Majors shared the wealth as five different goal scorers led the early charge. The Hawks would respond with three of their own to knot the game at 5-5. Whitney Smith would take over in the latter stages of the first half, scoring one goal and dishing out two assists to lead the Majors into the half with a 9-7 lead.
It was all Majors in the second half, as they set the tone early. The Majors strung together three goals within the first two minutes enroute to a five goal run to go up 14-7. Alex Morphew had a natural hat trick as part of the run, scoring the last goal of the first half and the first two in the second.
The Majors defense was the story in the second half, putting the clamps on the Huntingdon offense. The Hawks managed just two goals and seven shots on goal. The Majors as a team recorded 55 ground balls and forced 14 turnovers. Madelyn Walker was rock steady in net for the Majors, making 11 saves.
The Majors snapped their two game losing streak and sit at 4-3 overall. The Majors head to Danville, Kentucky on March 29th and 30th for games against Centre and Wooster.
