MAJOR COMEBACK FALLS SHORT
DANVILLE-The Millsaps Majors made a furious comeback, scoring twice in the final two minutes, but fell 11-10 to the Centre Colonels on Friday afternoon.
Centre led 6-3 at the half after scoring four unanswered goals to close out the first 30 minutes. The Majors got goals from JB Page, Whitney Smith and Alex Morphew in the first half to pace the Majors.
Centre tried to break the game open to start the second, scoring the first two goals of the half to lead 8-3. The Majors were having none of that and stormed back. A natural hat trick by Whitney Smith (three straight goals) made it 8-6. Smith accomplished the feat in just under two minutes of play.
Morphew and Sarah Hawthorne would score to make it a 10-8 game with just under 15 minutes to play. Centre would make it 11-8, setting up the Majors last surge. Page scored again with just over two minutes left and Morphew scored less than a minute later. The Majors couldn't get the equalizer and fell 11-10.
Madelyn Walker withstood a barrage of Colonel shots, making 11 saves in the loss. The Majors do not have much time to dwell on the loss, they play the College of Wooster (OH) tomorrow morning at 10AM.
