MILLSAPS CAPS COMEBACK FOR FIRST WIN
ATLANTA, GA- Playing a man down due to injuries, the Millsaps Majors still picked up their first win of the season, 15-14 over the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels on Saturday.
The win also marks the first in the career of head coach Kasey Laird and moves the Majors to 1-1 in the SAA.
The Majors got the win using a series of rallies. After JB Page scored just 90 seconds in, the Petrels scored three straight and five of the next seven goals, building a 7-4 lead in the process. Theresa Woehnker, Katie Iskra and Margaret Eggers all scored in the final eight minutes to tie the game at seven at the half.
Oglethorpe started the second half scoring four of the first five goals to retake the lead at 11-8. Eggers and Iskra scored 90 seconds apart to bring the Majors within one, as the game became a see-saw affair.
After the teams traded the next four goals, Millsaps found themselves down 13-12. Eggers recorded her hat trick and later added the game winning goal with 13 minutes remaining. The Majors would hold off the Petrels to claim their first win.
Madelyn Walker picked up the win, recording five saves against 19 shots on goal. The Majors out shot Oglethorpe 27-24 including 21-19 in shots on goal.
Millsaps will look to pick up their second win of the weekend today when they face Piedmont.
