ATLANTA, GA- The Millsaps Majors faced perennial powerhouse and second-ranked nationally, Emory on Sunday, falling 8-1 in a non-conference match.
The loss is the Majors' first of the year as they dropped to 5-1.
Emory swept through the doubles portion of the event, winning the three matches at 2, 1 and 0, respectfully.
In the six singles matches, Deena Li Kam Wa (pictured) picked up the Majors only point of the day with a third set tiebreak win over Michelle Satterfield, an All-American, ranked #1 in the South region and winner of the Fall ITA regional. The junior rebounded from a 6-1 second set loss to win the third set race to 10 points, 10-5. Li Kam Wa found herself down 5-3 in the tiebreak, only to rally and win the match's final seven points. The win keeps Li Kam Wa undefeated in the spring. Li Kam Wa's only loss of the season was to Satterfield's teammate Melissa Goodman in the ITA quarterfinals in the fall.
The Eagles handily won the remaining matches. The Majors now at 5-1, turn their attention to SAA play when they travel to Birmingham Southern on Friday before their spring break swing through Hilton Head, SC. First serve is set for 2pm.
