Tal Hendrix was the definition of a closer for the Millsaps baseball team. A standout student-athlete from Jackson and Jackson Prep, Hendrix also was an All-Conference football player during his career at Millsaps. On the diamond, he led the SCAC in ERA, saves, and opponent batting average in 2004 when he was First Team All-SCAC. His perfect 8-0 record and eight saves in 2004 that season contributed to the team's success. Hendrix also threw the last pitch to close out the 2003 SCAC Tournament Title, which was the Majors' first SCAC Tournament Title since 1994. This moment was selected number six in the Top Baseball Moments in the SCAC record book.
Millsaps was a dominant force with Hendrix closing the door on opponents, leading to NCAA postseason appearances in 2003, 2005 and 2006. The Majors also won four division or SCAC conference postseason titles all four seasons from 2003-06. Hendrix also excelled on the gridiron, where in 2003 has was named All-SCAC Second Team. He rushed for 270 yards, passed for 73 yards and hauled in 148 receiving yards.
