JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps football team tops Birmingham-Southern 41-28 to win their first conference game of the season.
Running Back Taz Watson led the way on the ground with an incredible four touchdown performance day. Watson also gained 144 yards. Rashad Sims had two rushes for 42 yards and Ty Proctor had 4 rushes for 40 yards as the Majors rushed for 255 yards today. On the defensive side of the ball, CJ Coleman led the way with seven solo tackles. Hector Sandoval was right behind him with six tackles. Alex Foust, Chandler Loy, and Chase Hale all had sacks.
The Majors got off to a great start, with two of Watson's touchdowns coming in the first 13 minutes and only gave up one tie ball game before running away with the game in the second half. Tied up at 14-14 at the half, the Majors went on to outscore Birmingham-Southern 27-14 in the second half for the convincing win.
The game took a turn for the Majors favor after a 32 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Reid Evans in the second half. This touchdown off a turnover gave the Majors the room to breath with a lead to get their third touchdown from Taz Watson, go up 28-14 and never look back.
A late push from BSC was to no avail as Watson ran in his fourth touchdown to seal the game in the last minute.
The Majors will be at home next week for homecoming against University of Washington in St. Louis.Follow the Major football team and the rest of Millsaps athletics on Facebook at Millsaps Major Athletics, Twitter @MajorAtheltics, and Instagram @GoMajors.
