Jackson, MS  - Millsaps sophomore Ashley Ford was named Women's Tennis Player of the Week by the Southern Athletic Association in a press release earlier today.
 
Ford earns player of the week honors after helping the Majors finish 2-0 for the last weekend of regular season play.  Ford helped the Majors secure two wins, as she herself completed the weekend of play unbeaten going 4-0 against Rhodes and Hendrix. 
 
In Saturday's match with Rhodes, Ford led the Majors securing a win at the singles one spot 6-4, 6-2.  Her excellent performance in singles followed a win at the doubles one spot with Jordyn Kanak by a score of 8-6.
 
Ford followed up Saturday's solid match with a dominant performance against Hendrix on Sunday.  The duo of Ashley Ford and Audrey Bennett got things started with an 8-2 win at the doubles one spot.  Ford then secured a convincing win at the singles one spot 6-2, 6-1 to help the Majors earn an overall team victory of 6-3.
 
Overall, Ford has continually excelled for Women's Tennis having winning records at the one spot in both singles and doubles play (14-6 at doubles, 11-5 at singles).  Her efforts and leadership helped the Majors complete the regular season with an overall record of 14-6 and 4-3 in conference play.
 
With the regular season completed, the Majors will continue to look towards Ford's excellent play and leadership moving into conference tournament play this weekend. 
 
Next up for Women's Tennis is the Southern Athletic Association Tournament, held at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  Opening play for the conference tournament is set to begin on Friday, April 29th and will continue to Sunday, May 5th.
