BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After more than three weeks away from competition, the Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs came out on fire in Day One of the 2022 SAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Fifth year
Bryan Sullivan swam the fastest time for Division III in the 100 IM, while the women's team set two school relay records inside the CrossPlex on Wednesday.
Combining the butterfly, backstroke, breastroke and freestyle, Sullivan swam a blistering time of 49.83 seconds. Fortunate to have the waters cool him down, Sullivan's time stands as the swiftest across NCAA Division III and currently ranks eighth fastest across all classifications this season.
Having already set the conference open and school records during the regular season, the Jackson, Miss., native bettered his own school record and likely would have set a conference meet record had the event been contested as a scoring event. The time of 49.83 is also just 0.21 seconds off the all-time DIII mark set in 2019.
Prior to his individual open swim, Sullivan teamed up on the men's 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Breydon Conner,
Anthony Werner, Sullivan and
Casey Miller swam in 1:42.72, just off the school record of 1:42.51 set in November.
Miller, Conner,
Hunter Magno-Hester and
Cooper Clevenger also competed in the 800-yard free relay, clocking in at 8:19.15.
On the women's side,
Chloee Beebe,
Kat Burns,
Ginny Ray Clevenger and
Madisyn Latino worked to set a new standard in the 200-yard medley relay. Their time of 1:58.60 improved the 1:58.99 mark also established in November.
The 800-yard freestyle relay record was then rewritten by Beebe,
Catherine Passarelli, Clevenger and
Alexandra Raybourn in 8:35.73. The quartet improved the old time by nearly 16 seconds.
Millsaps returns for Day Two of the SAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. and finals conclude the festivities at 6 p.m. Live video, live stats links, meet info and heat sheets can be found at gomajors.com.
