Five Majors Named to ABCA All-South Region Team

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The 2007 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Division III All-South Region teams were released this afternoon with junior outfielder Hunter Owen receiving top honors as South Region Player of the Year, fellow outfielder Jason Hadley gaining second team honors and Hunter Abrams, Justin Carter and John Pacillo getting an Honorable Mention nod. 

In a selection process that recognizes the top 50 players within each region around the country, players selected to the All-Region First Team (Owen) will earn the right to receive All-American consideration which will be announced on Tuesday, May 29.

Reigning SCAC Player of the Year and a product of Jackson Prep, Owen batted .404 this season with 23 doubles (Millsaps single-season record), 11 home runs, 70 RBIs and 125 total bases -- all SCAC bests.

Hadley left his mark in the Majors' record books as well, setting new career marks in hits (236), doubles (55), runs (228) and games played (173) while becoming the SCAC's new career leader in walks (142).

After his third consecutive season batting over the .318 mark, Abrams steadied his career batting average at a solid .350 with 82 total bases, 54 hits, 46 RBIs, 40 runs, 17 doubles, three home runs and one triple to go along with a .410 on-base percentage.

Carter and Pacillo wrapped up the honorable mention bids after playing and starting in all 46 games, batting .355 and .364 with a combined 25 stolen bases. Carter also led all Majors in at-bats (186), hits (66) and sacrifice flies (seven) while Pacillo slugged .543 from the plate and made highlight reel catches in centerfield all season long.
