SEWANEE, Ga. – For the second time in as many weeks Millsaps has swept the SCAC baseball Player of the Week honors, with freshman Aaron Williams earning Pitcher of the Week and junior Hunter Owen earning Player of the Week accolades.
Williams picked up his second win in as many outings, tossing 7.0 solid innings and striking out seven while surrendering two hits and one run, in a 5-1 upset win at No. 5 Emory University on Saturday.
A product of Mandeville High School, Wiliams is quickly establishing himself as one of the premier pitchers in a tough starting rotation, combining for a 2-0 record and a 0.75 ERA in his first two collegiate starts. He has struck out 13 batters against just three walks in 12.0 innings of work, while allowing only three hits and one run.
Owen paced the Millsaps offense in a 2-1 week on the diamond, hitting .444 from the plate (4-for-9) with nine total bases, three walks, three RBIs, two doubles and a solo home run.
In a 10-0 win over the rival Choctaws on Thursday, Owen went 2-for-4 from the plate with three RBIs, his third double of the year and third home run, sending a towering shot over the left centerfield wall. He also carried a 1.000 slugging percentage on the weekend, while posting a .583 on-base percentage.
Millsaps will continue a four-game road swing on Tuesday, traveling down Lakeland Drive to face off with NAIA-foe Belhaven College (6-8, 2-7 GCAC). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Smith-Wills Stadium in Game 2 of the Cowboy Maloney Trophy Series.
