APPLETON, Wisc. – A day removed from gaining All-SCAC honors by the league office, Millsaps senior infielder Hunter Abrams and junior outfielder Hunter Owen have been named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region Team.
Owen, a D3baseball.com Preseason All-American and the SCAC's Player of the Year for a second-straight season, was a First Team All-South Region selection last season in addition to South Region Player of the Year and Third Team All-America honors. This season, the Jackson native led the SCAC in home runs with 16 (single-season school record), runs scored (61) and total bases (121) while ranking third in stolen bases (23-26) and fourth in runs batted in (50).
For Abrams, the accolade is his third-straight from the American Baseball Coaches Association, earning All-South Region honors in 2006, 2007 and now 2008. The graduating senior was an All-American selection as a sophomore and ends his career as the school's leader in hits (240), at-bats (664) and sacrifices (27).
The All Region selection process recognizes the top 50 players within each region around the country. Players selected as All Region First Team will earn the right to receive All-American consideration.
