Five Majors Named All-SCAC, Hawkins Tabbed OPOTY

SUWANEE, Ga. -- In exclusive 2009 all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) voting by the league's head coaches, sophomore infielder \#Will Hawkins\# of Millsaps College was named the Offensive Player of the Year while a total of five Majors -- and a school-record tying three pitchers -- were named to the All-SCAC team.

A native of Nettleton, Miss., Hawkins hit .427 this season (second in the SCAC) and slugged .750 (also second in the league), leading the league in hits (70), runs batted in (54) and total bases (123).  He also ranked third in doubles (16) and finished second with 11 home runs.

A two time SCAC Offensive Player of the Week in 2009, Hawkins is the ninth different player from Millsaps to win the league's Offensive Player of the Year award and 11th selection overall.  He joins Garner Wetzel (2005, 2006) and teammate \#Hunter Owen\# (2007, 2008) in boasting the fifth consecutive selection for Millsaps.

Owen and right-handed pitchers \#Aaron Williams\#, \#Boomer Hudson\# and \#Drew Maddox\# rounded out the list of All-SCAC selections, while LHP \#Tait Hendrix\#, C \#Russ Boyd\# and SS \#Billy Murphy\# were all named Honorable Mention.

Millsaps, ranked 12th in the nation and seeded 2nd in the Central Region, will open the NCAA Baseball Regionals against Wartburg College on Wed., May 13 in Moline, Ill.
