Perkins Named SCAC Offensive Baseball Player of the Week

SUWANEE, Ga. – Wes Perkins, a junior catcher from Geismar, La., has been named the SCAC Offensive Baseball Player-of-the-Week for games played Monday, April 2 through Sunday, April 8. Perkins helped lead Millsaps to a perfect 4-0 (3-0 SCAC) record this week with three wins against Sewanee and a win over crosstown rival Belhaven (Miss.).

Perkins gives the Majors back-to-back weeks as Offensive Player of the Week as he follows up senior Ryan Zemke, who received the honor a week ago. Perkins led the Major offense, going 8-17 (.471) at the plate with three doubles, one home run, and 12 RBI. He recorded a 1.000 slugging percentage, and tallied an on-base average of .471.

Against Sewanee, Perkins was 7-13 (.539) with 10 RBI, three doubles and two homeruns. He came through in a big way in Game One as he finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs including a grand slam and a double. He followed that up with a 3-for-5, four RBI day including a home run and another double.

This is the second time Perkins has received a Player of the Week award, but the first time it was for offense. He received the SCAC Pitcher of the Week in Week 10 of his freshman season.

The Majors currently sit at 21-10 and 7-1 in the conference and are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Clinton to take on the Mississippi College Choctaws. The Majors then return home this weekend as they welcome in the Rhodes Lynx for a three game series.
