JACKSON- Millsaps pitcher and infielder Keith Shumaker has been named a First-Team Pre-Season All-American by d3baseball.com.
Shumaker was named to the team under the utility position, given his success both on the mound and at the plate. The reigning Southern Athletic Association Player of the Year hit .376 with four home runs and 52 runs driven in. He also went 6-2 on the mound as the Majors' second-starter with a 3.01 earned run average and a trio of complete games. The Brandon, Mississippi native was also just one of three juniors to make the first team.
Shumaker was also second in the SAA and ninth in the nation in runs scored with 63 in 2013, trailing only teammate Stephen Gates who was sixth in the nation with 65 runs scored.
His versatility and impact helped lead the Majors to the Southern Athletic Association regular season and tournament titles, a South Region title and a trip to the College World Series for the first time in school history. The Majors earned a end-of-season ranking of #8 and will start this season ranked #12 in the nation.
The Majors will start the 2014 campaign on February 7th when they face Randolph-Macon at 2pm at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama.
