Men's Lacrosse Falls to Oglethorpe in Regular Season Finale

Atlanta, GA – A comeback rally in the final 90 seconds of play fell short as the Millsaps Men's Lacrosse team fell to Oglethorpe on Sunday 13-12.

Sunday marked the final contest of the weekend in a two-game road trip and completes the regular season for Millsaps.  With the loss, the Majors finish the season 5-10 overall.  Millsaps led at the half, but Oglethorpe outscored the Majors 5-2 in the final quarter to earn the win.

Millsaps took an early 1-0 lead just 34 second in to the game on an unassisted goal from Kyler Bibb.  The Stormy Petrels, however, responded to tie the game 1-1.  From there, both teams would add another score to end the first quarter tied 3-3 (goals by Alex Cottone and Garrett Perez).

The Majors began the second quarter much like the first, with two quick goals.  This time Jack Houtz and Garrett Perez scored – both within the first minute of play in the quarter – to give Millsaps a 5-3 lead.

Oglethorpe, however, responded – this time taking the lead with three unanswered goals.  Cameron Director then scored his second goal of the season with 7:37 left in the half to tie the game while Kyler Bibb scored his second of the day three minutes later to give Millsaps a 7-6-halftime lead.

The Majors outscored the Stormy Petrels 3-2 in the third quarter to hold a 10-8 lead with 15 minutes remaining in regulation (goals by Jackson Barrett and Cameron Director).

Down by a pair of goals, Oglethorpe began a run to take the lead in the decisive final quarter.  The Stormy Petrels scored five unanswered goals to regain the lead – and never looked back.

Sam Snyder and the Majors' offense mounted a late comeback with two goals in the final 90 seconds of play, but the rally fell short leaving Oglethorpe the victor.  The Stormy Petrels earned the intense Sunday victory recording 24 saves for the contest.

Garrett Perez led in goals with a hat trick while Jack Houtz led in ground balls with 13.  Majors' starting goalie – Pat Fredella – recorded 12 saves for the game as Garrett Perez, Brooks McCormick and Nico Baker led in caused turnovers with one each.

The Majors finish the season on Sunday, as four seniors will graduate after completing outstanding careers at Millsaps.  Aaron Falkenstein, Scott Tafoya, Jack Houtz and Simon Sherman will graduate after growing the Millsaps Men's Lacrosse program positively over the past four years.

Millsaps Men's Lacrosse also completes the season after setting a record for best start in program history with two dramatic, last second come from behind victories to begin the year.  With a new milestone reached and leadership from an outstanding senior class, the Millsaps Men's Lacrosse team has a great deal to look forward to and build upon for next year and beyond.
