Atlanta, GA – The 2016 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference award winners were recently announced this week in a press release by the Southern Athletic Association.
Seniors
Jack Houtz and
Simon Sherman highlight the list of All-Conference selections for the Majors, as both recently completed outstanding careers both on and off the field of play. In addition to leading the most successful senior class ever for Millsaps Men's Lacrosse, Sherman and Houtz also helped lead the Majors to the best start in program history with consecutive last second game-winning goals this season.
Jack Houtz, a midfielder from Austin, Texas, earns Second Team All-Conference after leading the SAA in ground balls with 127. Houtz also finished the season top 15 in the nation in ground balls per game with 8.46.
Houtz led the Majors in scores and finished third in the conference for goals with 35. He completed the year top ten for the conference in total points with 41 and led the team in faceoff wins with 111 – finishing third overall for the conference as well. Overall, Houtz led the Majors scoring 110 goals, 430 ground balls, and faceoff wins with 359 for his career with Millsaps.
Houtz was also named a Scholar All-American last season – the first ever in program history. In the first game of the season, Houtz highlighted the thrilling comeback road win against Piedmont on a game-winning goal with 38 seconds left.

John Hoeffler said. "He's had a great career here at Millsaps, setting personal and team records as well as a standard within the program along the way."
Earning the assist on the last second goal by Houtz was
Simon Sherman. Sherman, a native of Plano, Texas, was named Honorable Mention All-Conference by the SAA. This season, Sherman became the all-time points leader for Millsaps Men's Lacrosse and ends his career as a Major with 175 total points. Sherman's 45 points this season led the Majors and was top ten overall for the conference.
Sherman finished second on the team and third overall in the conference for goals scored with 34. He completed the season top ten in shots on goal with 64 and led the Majors in shots on goal percentage at .504. Sherman was also second on the team in total assists with 11 on the year.
Sherman highlighted the year with five straight hat-trick performances during the season and recorded at least three goals for the Majors seven times. He sparked a comeback against Hope scoring twice in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner with 22 seconds remaining in the contest.
"Simon had the best year of his career this season," Coach Hoeffler said. "His growth and the development since I got here have been tremendous. I'm very proud of Simon not only for his accomplishments, but for the impact he had on this program helping it grow to a new level."
Collectively, the two seniors have helped grow Millsaps Men's Lacrosse in a positive way throughout their years as Majors. With the recent best start in program history along with personal and team records set, the Millsaps Athletic Department is proud to announce the postseason awards for
Jack Houtz and
Simon Sherman.
"Jack and Simon have both had great careers here and have helped bring Millsaps Lacrosse to the next level," Coach Hoeffler said. "Both are very deserving of these honors and are definitely leaving the program better than they found it."
