Millsaps College Puts Lacrosse Program on Hold

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps College athletic department has announced that the men's and women's lacrosse programs will not compete in 2017-18 due to insufficient roster size and coaching turnover. The long-term future of both programs will be evaluated over the course of the coming months.

"While this is a difficult decision to make, our priority has always been to offer our student-athletes with the best possible experience in their chosen sport," said Donnie Brooks, athletic director for Millsaps. "Our Major Difference program demands that we focus on programs that deliver excellence for our student-athletes, and the current levels of participation and interest in lacrosse, combined with the decisions of coaching staff to pursue other opportunities, make it difficult to deliver on that promise. It is best for us to table the programs for now and revisit their status in the future."

The Millsaps lacrosse programs began in 2011. A combination of insufficient numbers and injuries led to five games cancelled in the 2017 season for the men, with 15 scheduled games over the past two seasons unable to be played for the women's team.
