ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Millsaps College men's tennis team ended their time in Florida with a pair of matches on Thursday.
Early in the day the Majors faced off with No. 11 Kenyon College. The Lords won all but two of the matches to pick up the 7-2 win.
In the nightcap, Millsaps took on Ohio Wesleyan University. The Majors swept through that match en route to their third 9-0 win of the season.
Millsaps now sits at 8-2 overall.
#11 Kenyon College
After jumping up to the No. 11 team in the country in the latest Oracle/ITA NCAA Division III Men's Tennis rankings earlier in the day, the Kenyon College Lords scored a 7-2 win over the Majors.
The No. 1 doubles team of
Davis Plummer and
Brandon Beck scored an 8-4 win, and
Benjamin Falk picked up the other Millsaps point with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at singles No. 6.
Ohio Wesleyan University
In the final match of the week the Majors easily dispatched of the Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan for a 9-0 win.
In doubles, Plummer and Beck picked up their second win of the day 8-3 at No. 1.
Alex Gardiner and
Jacob Niehaus easily took doubles No. 3 8-1, and the combination of
John Kimball and
Cooper Cearley finished out the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 2.
In the singles matches Millsaps did not lose a set, and only needed to go to a seventh point two times.
Plummer, Beck, Niehaus and Kimball all scored their second wins of the match, while Falk picked up his second singles win of the day.
Josh Shearin polished off the 9-0 win for the Majors with his 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2.
What's Next?
The Majors return to Jackson were they will have some time off from matches to prepare for the conference portion of their schedule. Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play gets underway on Saturday, March 30th with a trip to Berry College.
