NEW ORLEANS – A stellar season on the running trails for the Millsaps men's and women's cross country extended to the classroom as both programs were named All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday. Additionally, senior
Angelle Martin made the list of USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes.
The women's program excelled with a the Fall Semester grade point average of 3.75. Out of 212 NCAA Division III women's programs recognized with at least a 3.1 GPA, Millsaps finished in the top 15 percent. A trio of Majors totaled a perfect 4.0 GPA, including seniors
Rose Ward and
Clare Howard along with sophomore
Caroline Eschete.
Martin was tabbed a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete after posting a 3.905 GPA and placed 42nd at the NCAA Division III South Region Championships. The Biology major from Lakeland, La., exceeded the 3.30 GPA benchmark and finished in the top 25 percent of the regional championship meet.
On the men's side, the Majors finished with a 3.54 GPA. In total, 189 programs for men's NCAA Division III maintained at least a 3.1 GPA threshold to be named an USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. Sophomores
Henry Arthur and
Patch Heard both obtained a 4.0 GPA.
