MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps men's and women's cross country programs ran well at the 2024 SAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Senior
Sarah Strickland finished in the top 25 at Shelby Farms Park.
The women's team finished sixth with 159 points. Strickland finished
24th out of 76 competitors with a six-kilometer time of 24 minutes, 49.6 seconds.
Senior Fran Edwards finished close behind Strickland by reaching 29th place with a time of 25:25.20.
Both classmate
MacKenzie Farris (28:18.8; 56th) and freshman
Claudia Dempsey (28:38.1; 58th) cracked the top 60 to score for the Majors.
Senior Tyler Hamby was next in line, finishing in 61st position (28:59.2), while classmate
Abby Henry earned 69th (30.35.10) at Shelby Farms Park.
Sophomore Elle Powers' solid run set a season best of 31:19.9 to secure 71st. Freshman
Laken Day (33:21.40; 74th) ran a career-best time and senior
Caroline Eschete posted a season-best performance (39:37.1; 75th) to close out the meet strong for the Majors.
On the men's side, senior
Patch Heard led the way for the Majors by finishing 59th out of 72 distance runners.
The Ocean Springs, Miss., native clocked an eight-kilometer time of 30:17.4, while freshman
Phillip Antis ran swiftly behind (31:27.70; 61st) to complete the course.
Freshman Aidan Brice closed well in his first collegiate championship meet to finish in 69th place (35:46.4).
The Majors will return to Clinton, Miss. to compete in the 2024 Men's and Women's South Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 16, beginning at 11 a.m. along the Choctaw Trails.
