MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps men's and women's cross country programs competed against several strong runners and programs from across the Southeast in the Rhodes Invitational on Saturday. Millsaps finished 15th on the women's side competing against NCAA Division I, II and III as well as NAIA programs at Shelby Farms Park.
Seniors
Fran Edwards (63rd, 25:50.7) and
Sarah Strickland (81st, 26:37.6) paced the Majors with top-100 placements. Edwards shattered her previous 6K record of 26 minutes, 18.3 seconds in the process.
Freshman
Claudia Dempsey had an impressive showing in her first collegiate 6K race, placing 116th out of 175 finishers in 28:45.2. Senior
Tyler Hamby (143rd, 31:18.6) and sophomore
Elle Powers (160th, 36:54.8) completed the Millsaps scoring.
Freshman
Laken Day was right behind in her first collegiate race (161st, 37:10.8). Also competing for the Majors were seniors
Abby Henry (166th, 39:58.0) and
Caroline Eschete (171st, 44:14.0).
In the men's 8K race, senior
Patch Heard (152nd, 32:43.5) and
Aidan Brice (174th, 39:09.0) represented Millsaps as well.
The Majors will next compete close to home at the Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss. on Saturday, Oct. 5. Millsaps will race in the Belhaven Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m.
