Millsaps Tennis Closes Out SAA Regular Season

Women’s Team Bests Hendrix, 5-2 on Sunday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. & CONWAY, Ark. – The Millsaps men's and women's tennis programs concluded the Southern Athletic Association regular season at Rhodes on Saturday and at Hendrix on Sunday. The men fell 7-0 and 6-1, while the women were bested 7-0 before taking down Hendrix, 5-2. 
 
Millsaps women's tennis qualified for the 2025 SAA Women's Tennis Championship and will travel to North Little Rock, Ark. and play in its first match on Friday, April 25. 
 
 
Women's Recap at Rhodes, 7-0, L 
 
In the women's doubles, the Majors dropped the doubles point at Dunavant Tennis Center. Freshman Riley McClain and junior Alexis Oliver gave their all but were defeated, 6-3 on Court Two. 
 
In singles, senior Mary Dabadie fought hard by taking down her opponents 6-2 in the second set on Court One after falling in the first set, 6-4. Her competitor would give the Lynx the point in a 10-5 third-set tiebreaker. 
 
McClain also battled strong on Court Three but was defeated, 6-3, 6-4 in two sets after displaying a strong effort. 
 
Freshman Malakie Smith was just shy of winning her first set on Court Six in a 7-5 loss. Her opponent ultimately won the second set, 6-2 to claim the triumph.

Men's Recap at Rhodes, 7-0, L 
 
The Majors lost the doubles point against the Lynx, but seniors Carson Chassaignac and Brady St. Martin won, 6-4 on Court Two. were defeated in a close match of 6-4 on both Courts Two and Three. Freshman Sebastian Gonzalez and senior Sam Willard battled valiantly, but were bested 6-4 on Court Three. 
 
In singles, Chassaignac went back and forth with his opponent on Court Two, losing 6-4 in the first set and winning the second set 7-5. 
 
Chassaignac and his foe challenged each other in the third set as well. However, the Baton Rouge, La., product saw his opponent secure the third set in a 10-8 tiebreaking conclusion. 
 
Senior Anderson Dulaney faced his opponent on Court Two, where he was narrowly defeated 6-4 in the first set. Dulaney looked to make a comeback in the second set but would be stopped by a 7-3 tiebreaker in set two. 
 
Junior Sam Tuli put up a close matchup on Court Three. His Lynx combatant took both sets, 6-4 and 6-3.

Women's Recap at Hendrix, 5-2, W 
 
The Millsaps women's tennis program (7-9, 2-3 SAA) took care of Hendrix in the regular-season finale on Sunday. 
 
McClain and Oliver won 6-3 on Court Two doubles, while freshman Skylar Spinks and Smith prevailed, 6-0. Millsaps claimed the doubles point and then won four of the courts in Singles. 
 
McClain won on Court Three (6-4, 6-4), Oliver made quick work on Court Four (6-0, 6-0), Sprinks earned a triumph on Court Five (7-5, 6-2) and Smith defeated her challenger on Court Six (7-5, 6-0). 
 
Seniors Dabadie (10-7) and Mackenzie Vordick (6-1) battled but fell in thrilling third-set tiebreakers.

Men's Recap at Hendrix, 6-1, L

Men's tennis lost their finale to Hendrix on Sunday. Chassaignac and St. Martin were able to triumph for the second straight match a 6-4 score on Court Two doubles. 
 
Tuli provided the lone singles point for the Majors, prevailing 6-2, 6-3 on Court Three. 
 
St. Martin and sophomore Caleb Solangi each battled tough, but fell by identical 6-4, 6-4 decisions on Court Five and Six, respectively in singles. 
 
Dulaney also put up a good effort before falling, 6-3, 6-2 on Court Two.
