MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps men's and women's cross country programs continued to excel on the off-roads after posting top finishes in the Rhodes Cross Country Invitational at Shelby Farms on Saturday.
The men's team placed 10th out of 13 teams with 265 points against competitors from NCAA Division I, II and III and NAIA schools, recording a total of 265 points.
On the men's side, freshman
Dallas Stricker continued to shine in his performances on the trails. The Picayune, Miss., native finished 31st out of 122 competitors, with an 8K time of 26 minutes and 56.8 seconds.
Devion Hart ran
closely behind his classmate Stricker, crossing the finish line in 36th place with an even time of 27:00.0.
Freshman
Mason Castleberry stood out as well for the Majors at the Rhodes Invitational. The Ocean Springs, Miss., product placed 73rd with a mark of 28:29.1.
Fellow first-year student
Benjamin Sylve took the 83rd spot for the team, where he saw 29.25.9 on the final mile-marker race clock.
Sophomore
Phillip Antis (107th, 32:15.3) completed the Major scoring and freshman
Wyatt Wheeler (119th, 37:18.6) posted a strong finish in his first collegiate 8K competition.
On the women's side, sophomore
Claudia Dempsey (23:16.8, 5K) led the Majors with a 78th-place showing out of 107 finishers.
Sophomore
Taylor Sutton (104th, 30.27.8) and senior
Kris Arrington (105th, 30:42.5) both ran closely together to finish out their meet on Saturday.
The Millsaps College men's and women's cross country squads will next compete in the Twilight at John Hunt Park in Huntsville,Ala., on Saturday, Sept. 26. The women's team will race at 7:30 p.m., which will be followed by the men's competition at 8:30 p.m.
