Develop Millsaps student athletes physically, mentally and spiritually to ensure excellence in both athletic competition and other aspects of their lives
· Ensure the safety and well-being of the student athlete
a. Maintain a safe, clean, organized and supervised training environment.
b. Educate student athletes on proper recovery methods, covering sleep, nutrition, soft tissue work and other relevant factors.
c. Maintain timely and effective communication with athletes, coaches and trainers.
d. Enforce sound techniques and appropriate rest intervals while training.
· Enhance athletic performance
a. Work closely with sport coaches and trainers to assess both individual and team needs for each sport.
b. Instruct and affirm a solid foundation of proper movement patterns that correlates to each athlete’s sport of competition.
c. Challenge student athletes with measured, progressive exercise techniques.
d. Decrease the likelihood and severity of injury by maintaining a joint-by-joint approach, attacking imbalances and asymmetries with corrective protocols.
· Develop strong work ethic, discipline and teamwork
a. Complement the work of sport coaches by ensuring that student athletes understand the high expectations of them as representatives of Millsaps.
b. Guide student athletes to embrace behaviors that will help make them both successful athletes and exemplary representatives of Millsaps in all that they do.
