Jason Box

Named as the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis coach in 2011, Jason Box turned the Millsaps College tennis programs into teams that are among the best in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) and in the region.

Since his arrival in Jackson, Box has seen both of his squads consistently produce winning records and finish among the leaders in the conference standings. After the 2017 season Box was named the SAA Men's Coach of the Year after leading the team to a 24-6 record and a berth in the SAA Tournament finals, setting a school record for victories in a season. In 2015 he was also named the SAA Men’s Coach of the Year, with the team finishing 16-4 and reaching the SAA Tournament finals. After the 2012 season he was selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women’s Coach of the Year, leading the Majors to a third-place finish at the conference tournament, then matching the best finish for the program.

During his tenure at Millsaps, Box has seen one of his players, Deena Li Kam Wa, gain All-America recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and play in the NCAA Tournament twice. Box’s players have earned 17 All-conference awards for the men and 14 for the women, including Malte Schick recognized as the SAA Men’s Player of the Year in 2013 and Diego Marti-Vertiz earning SAA Men's Player of the Year honors in 2017 as well as being named the Men’s Newcomer of the Year in 2015.

Prior to Millsaps, Box spent one season as the head coach at Lake Forest College, guiding the men’s team to their best point total at the conference championship in 12 years and leading the women’s team to a second-place conference finish.

Box also spent two seasons as an assistant at Bates College where he was named the 2010 ITA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year and helped coach the 2009 NCAA Doubles championship team as well the national runner-up in singles. Box began his coaching career at Swarthmore College in 2008, where he served as interim head coach. He led the Garnet Tide to a 7-2 mark in Centennial Conference play and to the semi-finals of the conference tournament.

A 2006 graduate of the University of the South with a degree in anthropology, Box was a two-time All-SCAC tennis player and was a team captain for the Tigers. He lives in Jackson with his wife, Catherine, and their dogs Millie and Chunky.
