ROME, Ga. - The Millsaps Majors Women's Golf Team wrapped up the final round of the Chick-fil-A Classic as they dropped 27 strokes off their score on Tuesday afternoon.
"Today was a big improvement from our first round score," said Head Coach Eddie Brescher. "Our girls are young but you can tell from our steady improvement that they are getting more comfortable in tournament situations."
The Majors got another great day from freshman Lauren Durbin, who shot an 80 for a final score of 158 to finish tied for 15th.
"Durbin had another solid showing this week," said Brescher of his rising freshman star. "Her first two events she has posted two top twenty's and we fully expect her to continue her great play in our next events."
Sophomore Lauren Barattini showed huge strides for the second straight week, shooting a 95, four strokes below her first round score, for a 194 and a tied for 80th.
The biggest improvement of the day came from freshman Whitney Smith, who lowered her score by 15 strokes, as she shot a 99 and finished 88th overall.
"Barattini and Smith are steady improving and working hard on their games," added Brescher. "Their scores are getting better and we will continue to improve their games in preparation for the next event."
Rounding out Millsaps was a pair of freshmen in Emma Lee Mikhalek with a score of 109 and Ashley Cabecerias shooting a 122.
Brescher was pleased with his ladies results, but knows there is plenty of room for improvement, "Our score today is currently a season low but we look forward to improving this record in our upcoming events."
The Majors are back in action on October 6th as they competed in the Birmingham-Southern Shooting in Alabama.
