JEKYLL ISLAND, GA-- Lauren Durbin fired a final round 76 to pace the Millsaps Women's Golf team at Jekyll Island this past weekend.
Durbin finished in a tie for 12th, placing her second among SAA golfers. She also finished in a tie for fifth in birdies made.
"Durbin struggled the first two days, but she showed how much of a fighter she is with her final round score. She wanted to do a little better in this event but I am very proud of the way she finished strong for her team," coach Eddie Brescher said on Monday.
"To post a 76 after starting three over on the first hole, is signs of a great player. We have a few things we need to work on in her game, and we intend to do that over the next few days and prepare her for this weekends tournament."
Laura Barattini also played well over the weekend, shooting a final round 87 on Sunday.
"Barattini is a steady player that has continued to get better after every event. In comparison to last year when she played here, she has become a much better all around player who is very close to taking the next step in improving her golf game even further," Brescher said.
"She has added distance to her game, better touch with her putting, and improved her ball striking. We still need to work on some short game issues and that will be our focus for this weeks practice."
As a team, the Majors continued to improve from Friday to Sunday, bettering their score 35 shots to a Sunday 393 collective score.
"Our girls have been working hard leading up to this tournament and the steady progression shows in our scoring from round one to the final round," Brescher said.
"Since this was the first spring event for our girls, we learned a lot on where we need to focus our practice to prepare for the next tournament this weekend."
The Majors head to Shreveport, LA this weekend for the Hal Sutton Invitational.
