DURBIN WINS SUTTON INVITATIONAL

SHREVEPORT,LA- Lauren Durbin drained a 15-foot birdie put on the first playoff hole to win the Hal Sutton Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.

Durbin shot a final round 73 to erase a five shot deficit to force the playoff, then defeated two golfers, including a division-I golfer to capture the crown.

"I and her teammates are immensely proud of Lauren and her accomplishment," coach Eddie Bresher said. "She saw that she was only five shots back after a tough day 1 and went out and competed."

Durbin and the Majors battled tough conditions on Monday that saw high winds and temperatures that dipped into the 30s. Durbin shot a first round 88 as the Majors shot a team score of 415, putting them in a tie for sixth. Lauren Barratini helped lead the way with Durbin and shot a first round 95, Barratini would finish 24th in the tournament.

"Lauren and I had a good talk after Jekyll (Island) about bouncing back," Brescher said. "We talked and worked on how to bounce back from tough rounds and to keep competing. She was only five shots back going into Tuesday and she knew she could get it done."

Durbin's 73 on Tuesday was easily the lowest round of the tournament. After forcing the 19th hole, Durbin piped her drive down the fairway, wedged to within 15 feet and drained the championship put. With the win, we believe she became the first Millsaps' women's golfer to ever win a tournament.

The Majors get a well-deserved break before competing in the Mirimichi Golf Invitational in Millington, TN starting on April 13.
