MAJORS FINISH FIFTH AT RHODES

MEMPHIS- The Millsaps Majors women's golf team finished fifth at the Rhodes Invitational on Tues at the Windyke Country Club in Memphis, Tennessee.

"Our girls put together a great effort today and I am very proud of the way they played in the second round," coach Eddie Brescher said.  " These girls have put in endless hours in practice and they are starting to see how hard work pays off.  We posted our best team round of the spring today, which is great to see our girls in top form heading into conference."

The Majors took 26 shots off their round one score, posting a 355 on Tuesday. Leading the way was Lauren Durbin, who improved nine shots in round two, firing a 73 and tying for the low score of the tournament. The highlight of the round was Durbin's first hole-in-one on the par-three eighth hole. Durbin used a four-iron on the 156 yard hole and rolled it in from about six feet away for the ace. It was Durbin's first ever hole-in-one and the first one in school history.

Lauren Barattini shot an 88, led the tournament in par-3 scoring and led the team with birdies made, finishing in sole possession of 20th place with a total score of 178.

"Barattini played very solid this week.  There are some things in her game we will continue to work on for the next tournament, but we are very pleased with the improvements she has made," coach Brescher said.   "Leading the tournament in par three scoring is a big statement in just how much she has improved.  She is an extremely focused and hard working girl and she will continue to see good results like this in the future."

The Majors next head to the SAA Championship  @ Highland Park GC in Birmingham, Alabama. Tee time is set for April, 25th.
