Box Score Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Men's Basketball Team fell in their first game of the season against Rust College earlier today by a score of 91-83.
The high scoring contest was the second of the day following the women's game. The Majors scored on 28 second chance points with 37 points coming from their bench. Rust however, scored on 36-second chance points and 40 points coming from their bench.
Millsaps opened the first half leading 15-9 with 12 minutes left to play. Rust then answered by scoring the next six points to lead 16-15. The back and forth first half, which featured 11 lead changes, ended on a pair of Pat Brown free throws to give the Bearcats a 34-33 lead.
Both Rust and Millsaps stated equal foul totals for today's contest with 26 as well. The Majors totaled nine three-pointers while the Bearcats totaled six. In the second half, Rust was able to capitalize on a number of different well-timed shots and a high shooting percentage.
The Bearcats trailed only once in the final 20 minutes of play due in large part to shooting 64 percent in the second half. The successful field goal shooting helped earn Rust the 91-83 win as the Majors fell in their season opener at the Hangar Dome.
Marc Robertson and
Myles Moore led the way in scoring for Millsaps with 18 and 16 points while
Blake Jones and
Trent Markwith also totaled 10 points each.
The Majors will look to regroup this week against another nonconference opponent. LeTourneau travels to the Hangar Dome this Tuesday, Nov. 17th for a 7:30 tip off.
