Box Score Walla Walla, WA – The Millsaps Men's Basketball Team fell to Whitman College earlier today for their final game played in Washington.
Today's contest ends the longest road trip of the season for the Majors as they completed a pair of games in Spokane and Walla Walla over the past two days. Whitman, who is currently ranked fourth in the nation (Hero Sports Ranking), defeated the Majors 95-52 to continue their unbeaten season at 8-0. Today's contest was a tale of two halves as the Majors were outscored 56-23 in the second half after only trailing by 10 points at halftime.
Whitman held the advantage in points off turnovers (34-5), bench points (53-25) and fast break points (4-2). However, for the second straight game the Majors were nearly even with their opponent for points in the paint as Whitman held a slight edge over Millsaps 22-18.
The Majors began the game on a quick three pointer from senior
Marc Robertson. Whitman would answer as both teams exchanged baskets through the first 10 minutes of today's game. Whitman, however, took the lead on a 20-4 run with six minutes left in the first half. From there, the Majors answered to keep the contest a ten-point game at halftime.
In the second half, Whitman again pulled away from Millsaps on a huge run midway through the period. The Majors cut the lead to single digits early in the second half, but a 26-4 run sealed the game – and victory for Whitman.
Overall, the Majors shot 40 percent from the field (17-42) and 46 percent on three-pointers (6-13) in tonight's contest.
Marc Robertson led the Majors in scoring with 12 points while
Blake Jones finished with seven.
Rajan Hanstad, a native of Washington, scored six points with a rebound and an assist.
Trent Markwith led the Majors in rebounds with eight total (all defensive boards).
The Majors will return home tomorrow after the longest road trip of the season. The Millsaps Men's Basketball Team will get some much deserved time off for the holidays after a road trip that spanned over 2,000 miles to the Pacific Northwest. Next up for the Majors is the opening game of SAA play after the New Year.
The Majors will travel to Birmingham, Alabama Jan. 3rd to face Birmingham Southern. Tip off against the Panthers is set for Sunday, Jan. 3rd, 2016 at 3:00 pm.
