Box Score Mount Berry, GA - The Millsaps Men's Basketball Team fell in their final game of the weekend to Berry by a score of 81-65.
Today's contest was a tale of two halves, as Berry shot 51 percent from the field in the second half after trailing 37-35. As a result, the Vikings came from behind and outscored Millsaps 46-28 in the final 20 minutes of play to earn the victory. The win improves the Vikings to 4-8 on the year and 2-1 in conference while the Majors fall to 1-13 and 0-3 in SAA play.
The Majors held an early lead due to a great deal of effective first half shooting. The Majors shot 64 percent (16-25) from the field and 57 percent (4-7) on three pointers in the first half alone. Trailing by 16 points in the first half, Berry answered the Majors excellent shooting performance with a large run leading into halftime.
With just over seven minutes remaining in the first half, the Vikings began a 19-7 run to trail by one possession. From there, Berry quickly expanded on the late first half run to take the lead and never look back.
In overall totals, Berry's bench held a significant factor in earning the comeback win. The Vikings outscored the Majors 46-15 in bench points while also leading in points off turnovers (23-16) and points in the paint (44-30). The Majors led today's contest in fast break points 14-4.
Four Majors scored in the double digits as
Quinn Atkinson led the way with 19 points and five assists.
Blake Jones totaled 13 points while
Marc Robertson scored 12 with three assists and
Trent Markwith finished with 10 points and five assists. Overall, the Majors shot 48 percent (25-52) from the field and 33 percent (7-21) on three pointers while the Vikings finished shooting 47 percent (25-53) from the field and 20 percent (3-15) on three pointers.
The Majors return home this weekend after a six-game road trip that has spanned from the Pacific Northwest to Birmingham and most recently, to Georgia. Millsaps will host Birmingham Southern for the conference home opener this Saturday, Jan. 16th. Tip off from the Hangar Dome against the Panthers is set for 5:00 pm.
