Box Score Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Men's Basketball Team fell to Birmingham Southern earlier tonight by a score of 66-41.
 
The Panthers never trailed in tonight's contest, which marked the conference home opener for the Millsaps Men's Basketball Team.  The Majors returned to the Hangar Dome for the first time in nearly a month after traveling for six straight games throughout the holidays.  The Panthers shot 54 percent from the field tonight to earn their eighth win of the season and stay unbeaten in conference play (4-0). 
 
After leading by five points midway through the first half, Birmingham Southern expanded the lead with a 9-2 run.  From there they never looked back by outscoring Millsaps 31-18 (first half) and 35-23 (second half) to improve to 8-6 on the year.
 
Birmingham Southern led in points off turnovers (15-7), second chance points (10-5) and points in the paint (40-16).  The Panthers also outscored Millsaps in bench points 22-4.  In shooting totals, Birmingham Southern finished 27-50 (54%) from the field and 6-18 (33.3%) on three pointers.  The Majors finished 13-48 (27.1%) on field goals and 4-16 (25%) on three pointers.
 
Alex Gerchow and Brennan Gagen both led Millsaps with 11 points each while Quinn Atkinson finished with eight.  Gerchow also nearly had a double-double with eight rebounds (4-4).  The Majors will look to rebound this weekend with another conference home matchup.
 
Next up for the Millsaps Men's Basketball Team is a home matchup against Sewanee this Friday, Jan. 22^nd.  Tip off against the Tigers from the Hangar Dome is set for 8:00 pm.
