Box Score Atlanta, GA – The Millsaps Men's Basketball Team fell in conference play to Oglethorpe earlier tonight by a score of 91-56.
The Majors could not overcome the excellent, first half shooting performance by the Stormy Petrels, as Oglethorpe never trailed in tonight's contest. Oglethorpe shot 78.6 percent from the field and 75 percent on three pointers in the first half alone. The myriad of points on 22-28 shots inside the arc and 12-16 on three pointers gave Oglethorpe a 58-22 halftime lead.
Both teams were even in points off turnovers with 14 each, but the Stormy Petrels outshot the Majors in bench points (36-20), points in the paint (30-20) and fast break points (10-6). Millsaps did, however, lead the contest in second chance points (6-2).
Freshmen guard
Trent Markwith led the Majors with a near double-double. His 13 points and nine rebounds led Millsaps on the night as senior
Marc Robertson and sophomore
Quinn Atkinson both totaled 10 points each. In shooting totals, the Majors finished 18-56 (32.1 percent) from the field and 5-17 (29.4 percent) on three-pointers while the Stormy Petrels finished 35-55 (63.6 percent) from the field and 19-31 (61.3 percent) on three pointers.
The Millsaps Men's Basketball Team will look to rebound as they finish the long road trip with another game in Georgia later this weekend. Next up for the Majors is another conference matchup on Sunday, Jan. 10th. Tip off from Mount Berry against Berry is set for this Sunday at 3:00 pm EST.
