Box Score JACKSON, Miss. -- Men's Basketball hangs on to win at home in the second matchup of the season against Belhaven 63-56 after a strong second half.
After a defensive struggle of a first half for both teams ended in just a 21-19 game in Belhaven's favor, both teams ratcheted up the offense in the second half. Both teams shot below 33% in the first half and combined for 17 turnovers, but Millsaps turned it on in the second, scoring 44 second half points on 45% shooting from the field to take the home win.
Millsaps was led in this game by
Sam Kohnke, who led all Majors with 13 points and a game high five steals, all in the second half in an excellent defensive second half for him. Kohnke also chipped in a team high six rebounds to go along with three assists and a block. Despite foul trouble, leading scorer on the season,
Brennan Gagen still managed to be second on the team in scoring with 12 points on 4-9 shooting from the field.
Saxton Becker and Wade Bason had excellent nights off the bench for Millsaps, both scoring nine points a piece to combine for 18 points and seven rebounds. Becker also had a team high four assists.
James Turner started on the wing in this game, and made a team high seven of 10 free throws in route to a seven points and five rebound night.Â
The Majors Men's Basketball team will return to action tomorrow on a back-to-back against Covenant at 5pm at home.
