Box Score JACKSON, Miss. -- Men's Basketball drops matchup to Covenant 73-60 to fall to 1-1 on the week and 3-8 on the year heading into conference play next week.

After winning in come-from-behind fashion against Belhaven yesterday, Men's Basketball was unable to repeat that same luck against Covenant this evening. Another slow start for the Majors as Covenant got off to a strong 13-2 start, however the Majors fought and played the rest of the half close to only go into the second half down 35-25. From there, Sam Kohnke and Brennan Gagen heated up and got their one-on-one game going to combine for 23 of Millsaps 35 second half points. 

Individually, Sam Kohnke lead all scorers with 19 points and four steals on 8-13 shooting from the field. Brennan Gagen put in 16 points and four rebounds. Buck Blanz was third on the team in scoring with eight points and four rebounds, going 6-6 from the free throw line. Trent Markwith came off the bench and put up good all-around numbers, racking up five points, seven rebounds, and five assists. James Turner started, scored three points and made two huge blocks on Covenant's leading scorer, Patjo Twagirayezu.

As a team, drawing fouls was the name of the game for Millsaps, drawing 23 fouls for the game and 11 in the second half in rout to 21 free throws for the game. The Majors forced 15 turnovers and limited Covenant to 45% shooting from the field and 33% shooting from three point land. The Majors themselves shot 40.8% from the field and 31% from the three point line.

This marks the last game of the calendar year and the last game before conference play starts for Men's Basketball. They will return to action on Monday, January 2nd against conference foe Birmingham-Southern at home.
