Box Score Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Men's Basketball Team earned their second consecutive win with an impressive conference victory over Berry earlier today.
The Majors earned the convincing 24-point win after trailing early in the first half. The tenacious Majors again overcame an early deficit to secure the win. Today's 86-62 victory closes out the weekend of play for Millsaps, as they end the weekend with a 2-0 record.
Quinn Atkinson led the Majors with 26 points, three assists and two steals. All five starters for Millsaps scored in the double-digits for today's contest as well.
Berry scored the first seven points of the game to hold an early lead. Millsaps, however, responded by going on a massive 30-7 run to end the half.
The impressive run was highlighted on a
Quinn Atkinson steal, which he finished off with a fast break dunk. Atkinson's steal and score gave the Majors their first lead of the game – and they never looked back.
After a double-digit, halftime lead, Millsaps continued the positive momentum by outscoring Berry 48-35 in the second half. The Majors expanded upon the lead despite a full court press from Berry, which nearly lasted the entire half.
Able to overcome the press and defensive pressure, Millsaps earned their fourth win of the year by shooting over 50% on field goals and three pointers. Millsaps ended the day shooting 56% (25-44) from the field and 53% (8-15) on three pointers while the defense held Berry to 37% shooting on field goals and just 17% on three pointers.
Quinn Atkinson led the Majors with 26 points while
Blake Jones totaled 18.
Brennan Gagen and
Marc Robertson both totaled 11 points each as
Alex Gerchow finished close behind with 10. Atkinson also led the Majors in rebounds with seven as well.
The red-hot Majors close out the weekend with a 2-0 record where they won both games by double-digits. Millsaps Men's Basketball will look to continue the positive momentum with the final remaining home games next weekend.
Millsaps will close out the regular season with two final conference home games, starting with Hendrix this Friday, Feb. 19th. Tip off against the Warriors from the Hangar Dome is set for 8:00 pm.
