Jackson, MS – The Southern Athletic Association announced the 2015-16 Men's All-Conference award winners in a press release earlier today.
The Millsaps Athletic Department is proud to announce that
Quinn Atkinson and
Marc Robertson were named All-Conference. Atkinson received Second Team All-Conference honors while Robertson was selected as honorable mention. Today's announcement comes just hours before the start of the conference tournament, as the sixth seeded Majors will face the third seeded Centre Colonels later tonight.
A sophomore from Spanish Fort Alabama,
Quinn Atkinson has led the Majors with 359 points this season. In 25 regular season games, Atkinson has scored in the double digits 17 times. He is third in conference in total points and ranks top 20 in field goal percentage and free throw percentage.
Atkinson scored a season high 33 points against Centre, which led the Majors for the most points in a single game all year. He also highlighted the first win in conference play against Sewanne by scoring the game winner on a late drive with only four seconds left in regulation.
Senior
Marc Robertson also highlights the list of All-Conference winners for Millsaps. A guard from Mandeville, Louisiana, Robertson is second in total scoring for the Majors with 293 points. He scored in the double digits 18 times this season and leads the majors in three-point percentage.
Robertson scored a season high 25 points against Rhodes by making five three pointers on the night. He also consistently helped the Majors come from behind and win games from effective, timely shooting. Robertson is top 15 in conference for total points and top 10 for three-point percentage.
Both Atkinson and Robertson helped the Majors secure the sixth seed by winning three of their last four regular season games. Atkinson averaged 14.4 points per game while Robertson averaged 11.7. The duo helped the Majors average 64 points per game and 1601 total points on the year.
The Majors finish the regular season with an overall record of 5-20 and 4-10 in conference play. At the sixth seed, the Millsaps Men's Basketball Team will continue to look towards the excellent leadership and play of Atkinson and Robertson for first round action against Centre tonight.
The quarterfinal tip off from Bill Battle Coliseum is set for 8:00 pm.
